Following the acquistion of a new project we're now looking for an experienced PHP Developer to join our team, to develop new features for an open source clinical application that is used by leading hospitals across the UK.

  • Any MVC framework
  • JavaScript
  • MariaDB / MySQL
  • Working with an existing codebase
  • Writing documentation
  • Source control system such as Git

Nice to haves

It would be great if you have any of these skills, but this really is the bonus list - they are not essential for the role.

  • Docker
  • Linux
  • Bash
  • Apache

About you

You are happy working in a structured development environment - think project management, source control, issue tracking, pull requests and code reviews.

You are comfortable giving estimates, assessing how far through a task you are, and being able to discuss progress with your project manager.

You know how to use an ORM, understand object oriented programming and design (using an MVC architecture), are comfortable with test driven development, and have an awareness of security issues. Ideally, you've had experience in coming into a role and getting to grips with an existing codebase.

You take a collaborative approach when working with colleagues, helping others, and are comfortable talking to colleagues either in person, through video calls and text chat, or over the phone.

It would be great if you could give us some examples of software you've developed, such as any open source contributions, videos or on-line documentation you've made, or your GitHub, GitLab or similar profile. Working as part of a team of multiple developers, it's very important that code you write is easy for others to read, understand, and extend.

Working at OpusVL

At OpusVL we strive to provide a relaxed, highly supportive working environment.

We understand that to be creative and provide high quality code, our developers need to build a comfortable environment that suits them individually and the company supports this as much as possible.

We operate test-driven development, code to proper specifications, and keep up to date with technology. Developers are the most important part of our business - without a great technical delivery team, we would not be able to handle the complex and varied challenges; with the right people we know that if it is possible, we can make it happen.

All developers get dual-head workstations (running Mint, Ubuntu and other Linux flavours) as standard, with a budget for peripherals of your choice.

We'll support your training and development, and give you paid time to attend conferences and other events relevant to your role.

The OpusVL office is in a convenient location right in the centre of Rugby, about two minutes walk from the shops, cafes and coffee shops. There's no dress code for technical people and working hours are flexible.

So if you want to make a difference, and support Open Source while working on interesting projects then we'd love to hear from you!

What we offer:

  • A casual dress code
  • Flexible working - start and finish times
  • A hybrid working model - a blend of office and remote working
  • Social events
  • Company Pension Scheme
  • Gift Vouchers for employee birthdays
  • Weekly fruit delivery (currently on hold due to Covid19)

To apply, please send your CV to careers@opusvl.com

Please note, we do not have on-site parking, but there is free side street parking within a 10 minute walk of our office.

We are not offering Sponsorship for this role, so you must have right-to-work in the UK

We do not use or accept offers from agencies.
